ALL GREY THEN A BRIGHT FLASH!

The weather is noticeably mild for this time of year, we’re experiencing more erratic extreme conditions on a regular basis. Here in the UK flooding has become a yearly occurrence & the millions spent on protecting towns hasn’t kept the damage to homes & businesses at bay. No matter where you’re reading this from you’ll have similar instances, be they bush fires, heatwaves or floods. The time has long been & gone that proves ignoring climate change over the economy is actually a FALSE ECONOMY.
Over the past 20 years I’ve had arguments & debates with countless skeptics who believe that the world economy is far too important to the “powerful” for it to take a back seat to the health of the planet. This is probably as true as it is shortsighted but at last there’s a glimmer of hope & in my opinion, sanity, in the form of this weeks historical agreement made in Paris by the United Nations.
Coming unanimously together to reduce carbon emissions & hold global temperatures to a maximum rise of 1.5 degrees. The rich countries promise to raise 100 billion a year by 2020 to help poor economies adapt & all 195 countries agree to accelerate the phase out of fossil fuels.
Looking unlikely right up to the last hours, the French government pulled the proverbial rabbit out of a hat bringing the rich & poor countries to a mutually acceptable agreement!
I couldn’t help it – I bloody cried.
Many moving statements have since been made by those involved however I think Barak Obama summed it up best with his usual succinct simplicity by saying…

“This agreement represents the best chance we have to save the one planet that we’ve got.”

Now to my outfit, all grey then a bright flash of (hope) tangerine!

Can you get any more RetroChicMama than corduroy flares? Super flared super soft velvet cords in steel grey with a perfect colour match to the fitted stretch sateen cotton shirt. These amazing grey Gucci flares I snapped up brand new from a fabulous Ebay shop I follow called All Hung Up. The tangerine suede platform pumps I bought for my birthday from a 2nd hand website back in October & were actually unworn so in pristine condition. You can read all the details in this post. There’s also more info on my cute little pony hair bag in this post.
My belt is vintage & for the life of me I can’t remember the name of the little shop in London where I bought it although to be fair it was almost 2 decades ago…yikes
I love the overlapping metallic fish scale  appearance of it & was always worried it’d catch on something but that hasn’t happened yet & I’ve worn it loads. Pretty funky isn’t it?
Not much else to say about this outfit apart from the obvious that it’s yet another permutation of my favoured 1970’s theme – Hope I’m not boring you yet…yaaawn

OMG I love those grey cords SO MUCH! I bought a pair of wide flared denim jeans a few months back at Uterque, and I’ve not worn them as much as I’d hoped. Maybe your post will inspire me! I’m also loving your belt.

I’d like to see the whole world being a LOT less dependent on fossil fuels, and for countries like Indonesia to stop burning down their forests. It seems so straightforward and so important to anyone with any sense.

Aren’t they amazing? You might be surprised to learn that I’m going to have them taken up. Although they look incredible with stilts…I mean platforms, I just don’t get to wear them as much as I’d like. I’ll take them up to a more reasonable heel height but not for flats…yet.
Yes it’s disgusting how quickly the forests are being destroyed – And for absolutely no reason apart from money! Bloody idiots, even my 5 year old knows we need trees to breathe.
Last year I didn’t send Christmas cards & made a donation to Medicines sans Frontiers instead but this year I went back to sending cards. I really regret that decision now & have decided this is the last year. I’ll leave it to the kids to give their school friends those little cards they like, that’s more than enough waste of paper & besides Christmas is really for children.

I loved the idea of a tangerine surprise, that’s genuine! Oh, and don’t even get me started on environmental politics, it just brings me to boil, arghhh. I find it’s all way too slow and years too late. Anyways, I enjoyed your last comment very much, and no, you’re not boring us:) xx Abby

What a cool comment Abby, I love “that’s genuine!” very cool.
Yep if women ruled the world perhaps things would get done a lot faster? Unfortuately, or fortunately (depending whether I’ve had coffee yet) we have the bigger job of being Mummy & running the household instead 😉

Yes you look georgeous! I’ve been wearing a pair of flares I bought at Top Shop for £40 and have just had 2 inches cut off the bottom. I love those grey cord ones with the little bit of orange shoe showing. The belt is interesting too.
I also want to give up sending cards and this will be the last year except for one very old friend who has remembered me for too long to mention. So far I’ve sent 26 and the postage is sometimes as expensive as the card especially if you mail them to the USA and France as I do!
You do not have to respond to this post but I love reading you and enjoy the photos.

Omg postage you say Allie? Tell me about it! I have a Great Aunt & Grandmother in Australia who aren’t on the internet so the only way for me to stay in touch is by mail. We’re very close so I try to send them bits from the children as well as letters & cards regularly. It’s ALWAYS at least £1.50 a pop so I understand only too well what you mean…it does add up!
Why is it flares are always so damn long I wonder?
