what to wear with leather trousers over 40

HOW TO STYLE LEATHER TROUSERS OVER 40

I’ve been on the hunt for a pair of leather leggings since the beginning of last year. I tried on the All Saints ones in store when I bought these sensational boots recently. The stretch leather leggings looked & felt amazing on! However at a whopping £398 I couldn’t justify the amount of wear to price ratio.
When this happens my next port of call is a search on Ebay. Unfortunately that proved impossible as the rare times the All Saints leather leggings came up they were still well over £200! Still unconvinced I’d wear leggings enough to justify that price I widened my search to trousers.

I have more outfit options styling leather trousers than tight leggings.

Wearing the leggings I’d always want my butt covered – You know what I mean?
My next problem became immediately clear when I typed in leather trousers & literally millions came up! Of course 99% of them weren’t actually leather & typing the words “real” or “genuine” proved futile UGH
Luckily I stumbled upon a pair by the lovely high street shop Jigsaw & although they were too small for me I saved them in my watch list. By doing this Ebay will automatically sort any others floating around cyber space & pop them up at the bottom of my page. An annoying concept on any other day, this is the easiest & best way to find exactly what you’re looking for without the hassle!
Sure enough several pairs of the Jigsaw leather trousers popped up periodically until eventually I saw this pair in my size. They were on auction so I quickly emailed the seller suggesting a buy it now of £50.
HELLO yep got ’em!
OMG they’re butter soft & sooo comfortable – I’ll definitely wear them much more than leggings & as you can see here my butt is not covered Hahaha. Additionally, they’ll work equally well with flat shoes as heels.
For my very first outfit styling my new leather trousers I’m keeping it simple with a cashmere turtleneck & T-bar flats. Although I’ve added a touch of sparkle with my sequins clutch, a quick change of bag & this is a “go anywhere” look don’t you think?

Love the look. Jigsaw is great for leather. I have numerous leather jackets, trousers and skirts purchased over the years and they have all worn so well which is more than can be said by me!

You know I was blown away by the quality Trudi. I have other clothes from Jigsaw so I know how brilliant their gear is but this leather is really up there with the high end designers. Actually I don’t know why I’m so surprised – I have a Jigsaw raincoat I bought at least 15 years ago that I wear every year & it still looks as good as the day I bought it!
We should do a campaign for them hey? Hahaha

Wow, those leggings look fantastic on you and you dressed them up very nicely and great with your beige shoes. Classy and the real leather looks so much better than all the faux leggings out there and they will last too. Great post !

This was such a coup to find these – they look such a perfect fit- well done! I love the simple styling for their first outing too. I would have overdone it and dressed them up to the nines. I’ve just bought some fake leather jeans in the H&M sale for £10. They fit like a dream and am now just pondering how I can style them up in a less is more way like you. Although they’re biker in style so not so easy to play them down. Your shoes are very cute and again not a colour I would have thought to use, so I’ve learnt a lot from your blog today. Nice to meet you x

Oh no biker style is super easy to dress down Anna. A simple white T-shirt (it can be longline for butt coverage) & either lace up flats or white trainers looks Parisian chic! I’d go with a chunky cardi to keep warm, any colour will work.
Let me know how you like it xxx

These leather trousers look so amazing on you that I immediately wanted to find them for myself. Being broke or not. That was not an important issue seeing such beaty haha. Then I realized I do not have your perfect figure. You do know you are perfect don’t you? WOW do you look good. I bought leather jogging trousers with a cuff at the bottom. Only, because I have such long legs and small hips, the size makes them a little short. Not too short, but short enough to get knees in them. Annoying. And like leggings, you get less wear out of them than out of normal trousers. You choose well.
And I still haven’t figured out this Ebay stuff. In The Netherlands they are crap (exusez le mot) and ordering from abroad is such a hassle. Can I return it? How much does that cost? Do I know my size? (Not very likely) and so on.

I remember the leather jogging bottoms you wore on Instagram, they looked amazing on you! Try to stick with Ebay, there are some amazing bargains. It gives you the opportunity to own something fabulous you may never have been able to afford otherwise. Being EU it really isn’t that expensive to purchase from other EU countries, even the postage is very reasonable. If you ask the seller as many questions as you can before you bid on their item you can’t go wrong. If it’s a matter of size & fit, measure something of yours that’s a similar cut & ask the seller to do the same with the item then compare. Remember to take “stretch” of certain things into account. Also you can ask about their policy on returns. Surprisingly many sellers do accept returns, which really reduces the risk as you only have lost the price of postage.
Good luck & let me know how you get on xxx
