How this Mama does Retro Chic

HOW MAMA DOES RETRO CHIC

In case you hadn’t noticed, I like a bit of Retro. Usually it’s a mash-up with my more modern pieces but for today’s outfit it’s pretty much head to toe. This outfit is how Mama does Retro Chic in 2017! It’s super easy to pull off any era without looking like you’re going to a fancy dress merely by adding an unlikely twist. For example if you love the drop waist beaded dresses of the roaring twenties but feel a tad too flashy, just add a long-line chunky knit cardi! It’s simple if you think outside the box – Imagine your one main piece then pick the polar opposite style to pair with it. If it sounds crazy it’ll probably look awesome, trust me.

See what I’ve done here with my fluid floral Jumpsuit I’ve added a very strong element in this beat up AllSaints biker? It’s that type of thing. My stacked heel shoes are still in keeping with the Vintage/Retro vibe & to a certain extent so is my bag however it’s the jacket that keeps the look current i.e ON TREND – Does that make sense?

A Floral Jumpsuit and Stacked Heels

This fabulous Jumpsuit has a slinky feel with its voluminous leg & stretch fabric. It’s from the funky online boutique Rock My Vintage & happens to be currently on sale at half the price! As I’m trying hard to not knowingly support abhorrent labour practices in the Fashion Industry I asked them for the provenance of the Jumpsuit. Here’s what they said…

“The floral jumpsuit comes from a brand called King Louie that only work with manufacturers’ who guarantee adequate working conditions. It started in Amsterdam and ships to shops across Europe. They are part of the Fair Wear Foundation that strives to improve working conditions in the clothing industry. They conduct strict inspections to ensure there is no child labour or excessive working hours and conduct strict inspections of their suppliers personally every year. Their clothing also comes with a GOTS certificate (Global Organic Textile Standard) which means that based on organic fibre and production compliance, the clothing is fully sustainable”

Rock My Vintage ships to UK, EU & the US – Simply choose your country in the drop down flag at the top right of the menu. Incidentally you’ll also find some amazing 1920’s inspired dresses on this site – It’s really worth checking out.

How about these old lady elbows? Has anyone else noticed their elbows aging? Mine look older than any other part of my body & I have no idea why!!! It’s bloody bizarre Hahahahah…
Also I need to do some investigating into the best ways to remove unwanted facial hair. My face is covered in whiskers these day, far too many to pluck like I used to. Besides which, I actually can’t see them to grab the little suckers since my eyesight is so appalling now. Does anyone have the answer to this dilemma?
Speaking of aging – I have some interesting results from my new Caudalie products trial that I’m sharing with you next week. Hope to see you back for that.
See ya, MTx
Disclosure – Rock My Vintage gifted me the Jumpsuit. My opinion is honest & unbiased.

I always love the idea of some dichotomy in my outfits—not that I always do it, but I think it’s so fun!!!
Great look with that jumpsuit, Michelle! It’s so great to support the companies that are doing the right thing!

I think you look good in just anything! King Louie also sells fabulous dresses! I use some kind of pad for my facial hair. I bought it years ago, I actually bought a bigger pad for my legs and the smaller one was added. I never used the one for my legs, but for my face it was great. I shall see if I can find it online and then send the link to you!

What FABULOUS jumpsuit, and made even better with the ethical supplier. BRAVO! I wish every company was this conscious.

Love the styling from top to bottom. This is honestly one of my favourite looks on you, because it is so fearlesslessly retro and so modern. Those shoes are to die for.

Now I’m off to scour the Rock My Vintage website… xx

You are some HOT Mama in that jumpsuit Michelle! You absolutely rock the look including the leather jacket! Plus, I’ve just noticed the lingerie Instagram photo underneath, and let me tell you – that’s some yummy mummy over there! Sexy as hell! xx Abby

Thanks so much Abby! Now let me tell you the strangest thing about that lingerie photo – VERY UNPOPULAR. I almost didn’t post it because back last Summer I posted regular Swimwear shots to show how I mix & match my cozzies on holiday. VERY UNPOPULAR. So when the lingerie oportunity arose I had to think long & hard about whether I’d post me wearing it or just flatlay. In the end I decided to go for it but a week on I see hardly any likes or engagement! Again! I’m wondering why it’s so unappealing to my audience? Any thoughts?
p.s. I’m not fishing for compliments heeheehee am genuinly perplexed xxx

Wow Michelle, the jumpsuit looks amazing on you! Just checking out their website now. My elbows are fine – it’s the old lady crepe effect skin on the upper arms that I hate! How did that happen…?!

    • avatar
      MT

      Thanks Wendy Kate xx
Oh yes the crepey skin is there too, I think the elbows thing I only noticed in photographs recently, it’s probably been there ages Heeheehee. Good thing my eye sight has deteriorated along with it 😉

      • avatar
        Wendy Kate

Yes, the loss of eye sight all helps but then you need a magnifying mirror to apply eyeliner and …WHAT?!!!!! Scarey… :-O

Ha have you got ESP Wendy Kate? I have just tried to tackle the eyeliner blind issue in my latest post! xxx

Hey Michelle the jumpsuit looks amazing on you and great tip about adding something diametrically opposed to make a retro outfit modern. I know exactly the type of gadget you need – it’s called the Hollywood Browzer and I’m going to review it later this week. Makes easy work of those hairs and “peach fuzz” on the face.

Hi Michelle, love the floral jumpsuit, pretty style! I looked for a jumpsuit on-line last year, but was deterred as I have tried them on before and they weren’t long enough. I suppose I could always ask for an inseam measurement. Love the chunky sandals with this fun look, and your awesome leather jacket makes it contemporary.

MT I’m so jelly you got this jumpsuit – I was considering getting this exact one from Rock My Vintage but they sold out in my size!! Perfect shoes for it, it’s always hard to know what shoes/boots to wear with wide legs… it’s too easy to get them wrong. Just all-round funky, chic and gorgeous, you stunner, you <3

    Suzi Grant

A woman so after my own heart, just love the leather jacket look with a floral! You rock it. As for the elbows, I gave up on that a long time ago when my boyfriend at the time said he could always tell a woman’s age by her elbows! I guess we neglect them, they get forgotten and they are constantly creasing. Lots of moisteriser is all I can suggest and keep them out of the sun! Suzi x (Alternative Ageing)

      MT

Ok this has come as quite a shock to me Suzi. I mean what the hell? So glad to hear he is now an ex, but on the other hand he does sound quite on the ball with the elbow neglect Hahahahaha! OMG I’m just kidding I’m sure he was lovely, the elbow phenonemon is still keeping me awake at night 😉 xx

    No Fear of Fashion

Being Dutch I know King Louie but I never knew they had such good roots. The jumpsuit looks ever so good on you, as do the many other examples with your biker jacket. Personally I need another shape (no hips, no bum), but I think I have found a few that work.
Now… elbows.. I cannot see that yours have aged in the picture you publish, but I know what you are talking about. Put cream on them every morning will work to some extend. As my upper arms look really old from rather an early age, I am always wearing sleeves, so why not sleeves over the elbow haha. Otherwise accept it.
Facial hair. Have it removed by laser. The only solution. I think.

      MT

Oh right of course you would know King Louie! I love the groovy name 😉
Trust me on the elbows, when I say that they’re saggy I’m not exaggerating, especially when my arm is straight ugh yuk. However I’m not about to plaster photos of that all over my blog – Scare you off! Hahahahaha! I never think to rub cream into them when I swipe quickly up my arms & legs but I will do from now on.
As for the facial hair, you say laser too? This is not painful? I guess anything I do will involve pain? I tried threading once – Yikes! Bloody dreadful, couldn’t bear that again plus I kept thinking the lady would grab my skin with her cotton so I winced every time. Ok Greetje I’ll look into laser treatment…
