6 OF THE BEST COLOURS TO GO FOR IN A LEATHER JACKET

*My most popular fashion post of all time is about the humble motorcycle jacket. I noticed even more traffic to this post lately so decided to re-publish it. Evidently many of you are looking for advice on the perfect colour leather jacket. Although the weather may not call for a leather jacket & the last thing you need is to be any hotter, now is exactly the right time to buy one. Why? Because all the expensive labels we usually wouldn’t consider ARE MASSIVELY REDUCED!

So my darlings, I have updated all the links for you…..Enjoy xx

I have thought about this a lot over the years because a really good quality leather jacket is bloody expensive! Unfortunately inexpensive leather jackets look cheap & no doubt come from questionable sources so I don’t even entertain the thought of buying one of those. Therefore I have to make sure the colour I buy will work with my entire wardrobe otherwise I wont wear it enough to justify the cost. Which is why I’ve come to this conclusion of colours however it is just my opinion based on my collection of clothes, I’m not in any way saying all of these colours will be perfect for you but I’m pretty certain at least a couple will be. Also these leather jackets aren’t all bikers because sometimes I like a softer more draped style as opposed to the structure of a Moto.

Additionally the brands I feature today are my personal favourites that I either own or have tried on so I can truthfully say their quality is exceptional & I believe worth the outlay. If you like the jacket but think the price is too high please go have a look for it on Ebay, ThreadUp, The Real Real or Vestiaire Collective. Second-hand high-end leather jackets are almost always in excellent condition, you really can’t go wrong. This Oxblood Biker I’m wearing today is second-hand AllSaints & I absolutely adore it! Hardly worn yet less than half the price of a new one. Good for my budget & fantastic for the Planet. Scroll on to take a closer look…

What are the Best Colours to go for in a Leather Jacket?

By far & away for price to quality ratio Brands AllSaints & MuuBaa are streets ahead in my opinion. If you wait for sales the deal is even sweeter although you run the risk of not getting the colour you want. However if this is your first leather jacket you probably have a couple of colour options so the chances are good for getting one in your size on sale. The first leather jacket I ever bought was this Taupe one in the AllSaints sale & let me tell you it has worked incredibly hard over the years. Some time later the second leather jacket I bought wasn’t on sale but is probably THE most practical & popular biker jacket of all time – The Cargo by AllSaints. If you only ever buy one Biker this is about as good as it gets for STYLE, PRICE & QUALITY. You can see me wearing it here here & here. It also looks awesome over a pretty dress as The Sequinist demonstrates so beautifully. In other words you can literally wear it with everything!

In any case, if I had an unlimited budget these are 6 of the best colours I would go for – BLACK (or charcoal) OXBLOOD (or burgundy) GREEN (or forest) TAN (or brown) TAUPE (or nude) & METALLIC in any colour but most likely silver.

My Picks of the Best colour Leather Jackets

The dress I’m wearing over my cropped kick flares is Vintage Isabel Marant you can see how I’ve styled it differently here. My boots are from DUO boots. You can see me wearing this pair another way here. Do you wear your knee-high boots underneath jeans too? It’s a great way to get even more use out of them.

Bye for now, Mx

I enjoyed reading this because I love having different colors instead of the basics!! Besides, I’ve been trying to stay away from black lately!!
This is a beautiful color for you! I just bought one in a darkish red/brown and it’s been so versatile!

I totally agree about avoiding black although for a biker it’s pretty versatile. Red brown is the perfect alternative to black! xx

Great post, very helpful. I chose green as it is much softer for my complexion than black. And I have a red one as well because I couldn’t resist it. It was a bad buy. Although it looks very good with the scarf I bought with it and with a certain pair of jeans, it is the only way I can wear it. I tried the jacket on other pieces several rimes.. nope. It hangs very funny at the back when I wear it open. As you said: poor quality. I should have known better.
This outfit of yours looks lovely and relaxed. Good idea to use your knee high boots. As I am still clinging to skinnies, I cannot do that.

Yes to the GREEN! I tried on a gorgeous MuuBaa green a little while ago, waited for the sale but then missed out on my size. That’s ok it’s fun playing chicken in the sales & there’s always next year. Shame about your red one not being quite right Greetje perhaps you can sell it on Ebay?
As for holding onto the skinnies, why not try the kick flares? Still skinny but with a teeny tiny amount of flare at the end allows the boots to sit nicely underneath & it’s such a great silhouette for flat bums like us πŸ˜‰

I love yours, I have always loved leather jackets. I was fifteen when I purchased my first one, in burgundy, I had worked very hard to buy that one! Now I have a black and a green one!

Along with the over-the-knee boots a biker leather jacket is on my hot list (that is once I have the courage to actually go and get one). Especially in the Burgundy color which makes it double as hot. Hugs and kisses to you Michelle and your lovely furry friend! xx Abby

Oh Michelle! Not usual that I disagree with you, but my life became complete when a certain off white biker (jacket, not man) came into my life last winter…. So fresh, so cool! Love that it lightens up a winter day! Looks great with washed denim jeans and white runners.(Actually my husband did ride a motorbike when we met, so two bikers have made my life complete!)

I’ll let you off this time Samantha since the chalk colour is such a winner. In fact from your description I’m imagining how cool you look in your outfit. Agree the lighter colours are gorge too, let’s be honest there isn’t a colour out there that doesn’t work if the quality is high. I think I should’ve called this post “Always buy a good quality leather jacket & you can’t go wrong” Hahahaha. Well done on Husband by the way πŸ˜‰

Thank you for the mention in your fabulous post. I’m now trying to figure out if I can justify a silver biker; the two you show here are GORGEOUS!!!!! Since I’m a brights kinda gal, I’d also dearly love a red leather jacket, maybe I should buy Greetje’s (clothes-swapping on RCM!).

Your dress over kick flares is perfect, and I love the white clutch with the dress. Lovely inspired styling, as usual. xx

Thank you sweetness & you’re welcome!
I’m liking the idea of a clothes swap between you & Greetje, if I remember correctly she had a sequinned sweater you wanted too? πŸ˜‰

      NO FEAR OF FASHION

You mean that bright red one Lisa? We can have a desl here as I cannot use it for anything else than wearing it with those jeans, in that way. It is a bit too tight in the waist (what isn’t?). And perhaps it is the way I am built, but if I wear it open, it stands off a bit at the back. If I ever be able to travel again, I will bring it with me.
