HOW TO RESTYLE YOUR SEQUINS AFTER NEW YEARS EVE

Many years ago, over two decades actually, I bought a sequins dress. I wore it a few times but grew tired of the look quite quickly as there was no other way to style it. Hence I haven’t bought another sequins dress since nor have I felt the urge….until recently that is.

The sequins dress has made a big come back, fortunately so has the sequins skirt. In fact we’ve seen sequins made everything all over social media this past year which got me thinking. Perhaps it’s time to squeeze my tooshie into sequins again? With so many pieces available, the options are limitless so I decided to go the most versatile route. By getting a top and skirt as opposed to a dress I can re-style both pieces a gazillion ways and equally well for daytime. Now that’s a lotta outfit options!

I chose silver and navy blue sequins because these two colours work with my entire wardrobe, which is what this exercise is all about. Also I think navy is more forgiving than black and easier to dress down for day wear. Likewise silver instead of gold which can come off brassy in daylight although a multicoloured sequins is perfect for both day and night so definitely worth considering. Other sequins colours I love are pink and forest green. Incidentally I included the incredible Spiderman sequins design in my favourite picks below purely for the drool. Obviously none of us would spend on a skirt, would we Lisa?

My first look is simply the sequins T-shirt paired with navy pinstriped trousers and navy cardigan. I added the hat for a sassy twist and the red boots just because they’re new. Showing just a portion of the top automatically tones it down whilst simultaneously adding zing to an otherwise monochrome outfit. This works well for day yet is super easy to elevate for evening simply by removing my cardi.

DRESS DOWN A SEQUINS SKIRT WITH A SWEATER

To give the sequins skirt a full workout you simply add a sweater. Any sweater or all the sweaters. Hardly a difficult choice as they’d all look great. Today I’m going streamline with my fitted poloneck. To colour block I wear navy tights and socks with black and navy ballet flats. Switch the ballets with black knee-high boots for a sexy take on this outfit. Otherwise go super cosy with a chunky sweater instead of this fitted one. Knitwear and sequins make a beautiful contrast of textures, a pairing with endless options. There’s absolutely no reason to avoid sequins during the day when you style them down with a jumper. This is the epitome of relaxed glam.

DOUBLE SEQUINS FOR THE SEQUINS DRESS LOOK

Finally here are both pieces styled together which gives me the full impact of a sequins dress without limiting my styling options. This look is probably too much just for a dinner date but I’d certainly wear it to a cocktail party or for New Years Eve.

My fabulous silver belt is vintage. You could say it’s double vintage, since it was vintage when I bought it 28 years ago! Blimey that makes me vintage too I guess?

Happy New Year to you all!

Does anyone have any big plans for 2019? I’m still in disbelief that next year is 2020! When I was a kid 2020 was the year we ran out of time to save our environment. As I became an adult my fear for this beautiful planet grew stronger. Now here we are fast approaching the tipping point yet not nearly enough has changed to prevent catastrophe. When I was younger I worried more about the planets survival than the survival of humanity. Now I don’t know what to think. Some days I’m sure Humans will self destruct but Earth will survive while other days I picture people living on another planet leaving this one devastated.

Have you seen the movie WALLE? Yikes what a future that would be! I wonder whether AI will save us or end us? Makes for fascinating contemplation and some pretty awesome movies right?

So on that note, In 2019 I promise to be better at sustainable living. To buy less of the throwaway stuff and forgo plastic packaging wherever possible. To work harder towards my dream of getting a plug-in car and to cycle more. Moving forward, I’m thrilled that our pared down Christmas was just as fun as any other and the children were happy with only a few presents. Hence forth Christmas will be even fewer gifts, no tinsel or cards and absolutely no wasted over done feast.

Lots of love darlings xx
*Disclosure – Thank you JD Williams and Simply B for gifting me the sequins skirt and top.

    No Fear of Fashion

Terrific styling. You know you look like Victoria Beckham in some of these photos? Yes, that great. (I adore VB, just so you know). And I love the second but last photo, the close-up. It shows a person that is not really you but also very nice. Ballet flats and socks have never been high on my favourite list, but hey you are not on this earth to please me right? (😉)
The sequined items will last you forever, very good pieces.

I think my long brown hair and turned up pixie nose coupled with the oversized sunnies give me a whiff of the VB Greetje 😆

I ALSO love the second to last closeup photo of you, that Greetje mentioned. It is gorgeous! One of my favourite faces in my favourite sequins! Ummmm, I’d probably not spend that much on a Spider man sequinned skirt, but I’ve almost spent that much on a rainbow striped one before (more versatile? …she says, with a hopeful tone).

Navy is perfect in your wardrobe, and I’m thrilled to see you in sequins. You really can’t have a bad day when you’re wearing them, can you? The skirt is just perfect on you.

      Happy new year Abby!
I wasn’t sure the skirt would work for me in the day but it actually did. I wear it a lot in fact xx
