SECONDHAND LEATHER PANTS FOR SPRING

Don’t put away those secondhand leather pants just yet my friends, Spring is the perfect weather to wear them!

I suppose any garment made from leather feels like it should be reserved for Autumn/Winter but why is that? Leather is actually very comfortable for the mild temperatures of Spring. Think trans-seasonal – it’s a sunny day and the weather is perfect but there’s a light breeze so you throw a leather jacket over your t-shirt. Well, the same can be said for leather pants and of course, I only buy secondhand leather pants. The terrific thing about good quality leather pants is how classy they look with very little effort. The luxurious leather speaks volumes even paired with a simple off white top like the one I’m wearing in today’s post. For a French chic look, I’d simply add a blazer and ballet flats. A sexy evening look is just as effortless pairing these leather pants with my Rixo leopard print blouse and strappy sandals. Believe me, the styling options here are endless. Leather pants are incredibly versatile which is why it’s worth looking at the upper end of your budget.

Now if that doesn’t sound Spring-like enough for you may I suggest a pink silk shirt, basket bag and espadrilles? And remember your secondhand leather pants needn’t be black. There are also lush light colours on the secondhand market now that wouldn’t look out of place paired with a spaghetti strap or tank top and sneaks for Summer.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN YOU BUY SECONDHAND LEATHER PANTS

In my opinion, leather pants shouldn’t be painted on and they don’t need to be the main event of your ensemble either. Think of leather pants in terms of adding value to your outfit. The look should be effortless and uncomplicated. Take a look at how I styled my leather pants underneath a jumper dress. Barely visible, yet they add a layer of interest to my outfit and entirely transform a basic jumper dress. Indeed the secret beauty of leather pants is how surprisingly easy they are to style. Don’t over-think this one. Although you definitely need the right shape to suit your aesthetic and your figure.

Sound too difficult? Don’t worry it isn’t, I have a solution to make buying secondhand leather pants painless. Yes, my friends buying the perfect pair of secondhand leather pants can be entirely uncomplicated. All you have to do is replicate the most flattering pair of jeans you already own. Although the one caveat is you will probably need a tape measure to buy them secondhand online. Getting the size right is key so look at the brands’ size guide and take your time to measure.

So quite literally – if flared jeans suit you best, buy leather pants with a flare. If high-waisted jeans work well on you, search for high-waisted secondhand leather pants. If cropped jeans are your most flattering style…yep that’s right, get cropped leather pants. And if you prefer a peg leg and paper bag waist, search only for those in leather. Believe me, nothing is off the table when it comes to secondhand just don’t expect immediate results. Also, some sites like Vestiaire Collective give you the option to set an alert which I’d advise for catching that perfect pair before someone else does. Buying secondhand anything is kinda like buying a one-off.

My favourite trouser fit is slightly loose with a straight leg or boot cut which is what I went with when I bought this pair of secondhand leather pants. I knew these pants would look good on me and because they’re by Jigsaw, a label of quality I trust, I knew the leather would be beautiful. Alternatively, if you look and feel fabulous in your skinny jeans, you should go for a pair of leather leggings or jeggings. Designer stretch leather leggings are incredibly supple and look amazing paired with other natural materials like silk, cashmere, cotton and of course an over-sized merino wool jumper. My only advice for wearing leather leggings is to pair them with a loose-fitting top or a blazer.

MY SELECTION OF SECONDHAND LUXURY LEATHER PANTS

Yesterday I travelled through the webiverse visiting my favourite secondhand sites. On my exciting mission for delicious leather pants, I found the unique bargains you see below. Remember if you fancy a particular pair, they must be in your specific size. Be sure to determine if the size label is U.S, UK, IT or FR as these are all designer brands and sizes vary. I cannot stress enough when in doubt, go directly to the designer’s website to check the sizing page for exact measurements. Buying the wrong size is not only a pain to return but adds unnecessary carbon miles to your delivery.

The best way to avoid mistakes is to measure your pants of a similar cut and compare them to the measurements from the brand.

Here is a size L/US10/FR42 beautiful black pair of wide-leg leather pants from SANDRO for sale on The Real Real for $195

Also on TRR is this springlike peppermint green pair size M/US6/DE36 by ESCADA for $115

Again on TRR for those who like the skinny look this grey stretch leather pair by VINCE size M $150

Lastly on TRR by A PIECE APART is this divine rich oak coloured, high-waisted in S/US4 – It’s worth noting that first-time buyers on this site get a 20% discount.

Now on Vestiaire Collective, we have Isabelle Marant straight leg black leather pants with side zip size 38 for $250

And brand new with tags GUCCI leather pants featuring marmont belt and side zips in chocolate brown size FR40 for $536

Also on VC is this BURBERRY camel pair with side pockets in size UK8 for $204

A great cut by BCBG MAXAZRIA wide-leg black secondhand leather pants for $143 on THREDUP

thredUp has a huge amount of affordable stock in good quality brands as well as a few designer labels like this pair by THEORY for $192

Or this skinny leg nutty brown pair by VINCE size L a snip for $118

Also on ThredUp, I found this gorgeous deep berry coloured mid-rise pair by my favourite jeans brand, J BRAND size 28 for $170

And lastly here’s a low-rise black pair with elasticated waist and straight leg from J Crew for just $117 but they are a tiny size 0

So as you can see, there is a plethora of leather, for all shapes and sizes to buy secondhand. In any case, leather pants will never be out of fashion in my wardrobe. What about you?

These look amazing on you, Michelle (like pretty much everything does). I love how many ways you style these little beauties.

What a GREAT tip to basically replicate the fit and measurements of your favourite trousers but in leather. I’m so going to do that!

Now off to explore your picks… xxx

I’m crying over here because you look SO good in these MT!!!! Oh, to see the day when I could look good in a pair of leather pants… that day will come in time 😉

I think it’s a great idea to buy secondhand. I reckon the finish might be a lot nicer if they’ve been worn in slightly. A creamy-camel colour might be incredible in a peg leg style (my favourite shape on me). A goal to work towards, perhaps!

What can I say? Perfect leather trousers. If I could lay my hands on such an item, I would do so immediately. If it would look as good on me as it does on you of course. Hmm… your butt is much better than mine…
